Kendra's First Day

Today Kendra finally joined us! Welcome KK!

We were a bit worried about Kendra and her not being as conditioned for biking very far but she certainly fooled us!! She killed 25 miles AND she was doing up to 12 mph. Go 'head Kendra!

Our crew got a lift from our great friend Brent who brought us back to Taylors Landing so that we actually did the full Towpath.

While biking, I notices my legs chaffing. It got so uncomfortable. So much so that on a stop in Shepardstown WV I hit up the bike shop and got a pair of the fancy padded bike shorts. Let me just say that they are SNUG!! The junk was smashed! Needless to say that I had to peel them off as soon as we set up camp.

We made a stop in historic Harpers Ferry and had dinner at the Secret Six. Good history on them and John Browne. After dinner we were hoping to go 10 more miles bur that just wasn't happening. It was getting too dark. Instead we walked up to Jefferson Rock. Great views but it was a "nice" walk up to it. Sweating my ass off!!

Once we hit the campsite we met up with another camper named Jake. Young college dude who is hiking the Appalachian Trail. We decided to hang out with him. Seems like a cool guy.

My legs were like jelly today. I think we had way too much down time. We didn't get started until late this afternoon. From this point forward we have 60 miles to go. I'm hoping we can knock out 40 miles tomorrow so that we can cruise into DC with ease.

  1. OK so bike shorts are hella tight and squeeeze the junk but they save your life! oh and at the bike store, you should have purchased butt butter - it's like gold. Not the sexiest thing to apply but if you're chafing, you've got bigger issues! Love reading your blog - you go! :) Hey - what are you doing in June'2012?! :)
